I have come down with the flu which, of course, led to strep throat. Murphy's Law much?
Hopefully I will be out and and about running around soon. I'm starting to loathe the library and my apartment room. Although my chinchilla Hector has proven to be a loyal companion as well as my thoughtful boyfriend Nick. They're keeping me cheerful and sane throughout the closing of my sophomore year. If only they could heal this sickness and repair my asthma... I'll continue to make friends with the physicians assistant Kevin McCarthy. He'll restore me back to goodness soon!
I seem like such a slacker. Ugh.

Day 2?
I guess this isn't technically day two but it was the second day I put toward the marathon. I went to the gym last night at 11pm. I know it was pretty late but in my defense it's the only time I could really spare... Although I was studying for my dynamics quiz and running at the same time... It wasn't really effective. I got to class this morning (after 5 hours of sleep) and reworked my quiz problem at least 3 or 4 times. I got the same answers as my roommate... So we'll see.
Anyways, I feel like an old lady trapped in a small person's body. My knees hurt, my shins sting, my chest hurts all while engaging in the "fun" activity of running- maybe this is a sign? Or maybe it's just a test. I'm quite fond of challenges... I usually like the ones I know I can beat. But this is different. A marathon, really? All this for a solid black line through a single item on my bucket list? Alright well... let's do this.
I'm going to wear gym clothes to class to see if I get motivated enough to run again. I still have to see a doctor about my asthma. I'm pretty sure it's not something you can just walk off...

Day 1
I guess a little intro to start might be helpful. I'm Jena and I'm a second year Industrial Engineering major at Cal Poly, SLO. I'm an out-of-state student from Hawaii and I'm currently training for the Nike Women's Half Marathon. The reason I'm writing this blog is really for personal reasons and keepsake too I guess. I'm not a fancy writer or anything. I just have a lot going on in the noggin...
I woke up with motivation this morning plus the fact that pulling on jeans seem impossible in this weather... So I decided today was the day to start my training... I have 6 months right? Wrong... I have 5 months and 12 days left to kick my butt into shape. You see I am keeping a timer on my desktop as a constant reminder that time doesn't stop for anyone. Wonderful... as if being a student isn't a struggle on its own.
So I ran a 10:20 mile... which is "fast" according to my Mom. But could I really do 13+ of those in a row? You have got to be kidding me.
I also got a really nice visit from an old friend today: asthma. Great... Here's to high hopes and more positivity! Oh and did I mention that I can't just transfer my prescription?
